How and where to dispose of your solid waste properly.

  • Regular household trash, rubbish, and other materials can be taken to one of two Putnam County landfills. Waste Mgmt dba DSI 562-3262 and Sycamore Allied landfills 562-2611 are located just South of Hurricane on Route 34. *Sycamore Landfill is experiencing equipment problems & is closed to the public until further notice.
  • Recycle your Metal appliances like washers and dryers by taking them to WV Cash in Recyclables, Pickens Road, Nitro, WV.  755-5187.
  • Aluminum cans, newspaper, cardboard, magazines, office paper and some plastics, scrap metal and appliances can all be recycled currently at WV Cash in Recyclables.
  • Also available is Newspaper & Magazine recycling drop off @ E & L, Inc. Red House, WV. Winfield Courthouse & Hurricane in addition to Nitro WV Cash in Recyclables.  Residential and commercial garbage will be picked up by your local garbage company.
  • The Hurricane Recycling Center recycled newspaper, magazines, aluminum cans and brush with trunk diameters of up to 6",  Also used motor oil.
  • Remember to have your paper items clean and dry when you drop off recyclables. Don't leave the plastic bags or carrying containers with the newsprint.
